Odense is best known as the childhood home of storyteller Hans Christian Andersen. During our most recent visit to the Hallberg-Rassy yard in Ellös, we met a Danish family that lives in Odense. We saw them (Tine, Søren, and their son Kristian) several times while we were on the island of Fyn. They came to our boat for dinner one evening, we visited their house for dinner and we all went out to dinner.

We are constantly pleased, and perhaps less surprised by now, by the friendliness of all the people we meet, including boat owners, people in business, and people we simply talk to in town squares.

Art just loves these half-timbered, very old houses that always lean in several directions at once. This building houses a small shop of toys and gadgets. The shop has been in continuous operation for many years.

This wine shop in town invited us to view its collection downstairs through the arched doorway.

Newlyweds commonly decorate their doors to announce their marriages. This doorway, on the same street as the Hans Christian Andersen house, is both representative and beautiful.

Here are our friends Søren and Tine (pronounced Tina) as we enjoy our evening at their home.
